Sunny Isles Beach Police Department Achieves Re-Accreditation
Published on August 31, 2026
The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department is proud to announce it has achieved re-accreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). This independent, third-party recognition highlights the department’s commitment to best practices, while helping to build leadership and maintain public trust.
Re-accreditation is awarded for three years, with the department required to demonstrate compliance with accreditation standards each year. As part of the process, a team of assessors visited the Police Department in early August to meet with command staff, tour the agency, review policies and procedures, and examine more than 240 standards to verify compliance. The assessment concluded with a static display, during which assessors inspected the Police Department’s vehicles, specialty vehicles, drones, and vessels. Assessors also conducted interviews with department personnel as part of the comprehensive review.
“Re-accreditation is a major accomplishment for the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department and a reflection of the hard work of our entire team,” said Chief Eddie Santiago. “This is not just about receiving recognition; it’s about holding ourselves to a high standard every day and continuing to improve the way we serve our community. I’m proud of the work our officers and staff put in to achieve this, and I’m grateful for the trust our residents place in us.”
Re-accreditation provides several benefits to the department and the community. The process helps ensure the agency maintains the highest professional standards and remains in compliance with Florida Department of Law Enforcement requirements and Florida State Statutes. It also strengthens employee confidence, establishes clear job standards that can support recruitment efforts, promotes transparency, and can assist the department in securing grant funding.
The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department first achieved accreditation in 2023. Since then, the agency has continued to expand and enhance its public safety capabilities, including launching a Drone as First Responder program, creating a Special Enforcement Unit, and expanding the City’s red light camera program.
Re-accreditation reflects the department’s commitment to professional excellence and to providing the Sunny Isles Beach community with the highest level of public safety and service.
