Game On: IPAL Launches in Sunny Isles Beach and Aventura

Finally.... The cities of Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach have launched the Intracoastal Police Athletic League (IPAL), a collaborative initiative designed to offer local youth enriching athletic and leadership opportunities. At the February Commission workshop, IPAL Executive Director Dani Bonini announced the program’s official rollout, following two years of dedicated planning and organization.

IPAL will kick off with volleyball (35 spots), basketball (35 spots), boxing (15 spots), and a Teen Leadership Club. Registration is now open at sibfl.gov/activities. Please keep in mind that a current ID is a requirement for participation.

Boxing classes will be held at the Aventura Police Department, while basketball and volleyball will take place at The Spot in Sunny Isles Beach. The Teen Leadership Club, which is free of charge, will meet every other week, alternating between The Spot and ACES school in Aventura.

Unlike many PAL programs, IPAL charges modest fees: $50 per month for boxing (twice a week), and $65 per three-month session for basketball and volleyball (also twice a week). This small investment ensures the program’s sustainability and consistency, as it is staffed by professionals rather than relying heavily on volunteers.

Programming begins March 2. My hope is that the Intracoastal Police Athletic League will be a unique and affordable way for area families to access quality recreation while building stronger bonds between the Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach communities.

Last but certainly not least, I want to acknowledge Commissioner Michael Stern, who championed this program in Aventura before his passing. I am grateful for Sunny Isles Beach and Aventura staff for all their efforts in turning this initiative and Commissioner Stern's vision into a successful, joyful joint venture. It has already exceeded my expectations.
