I am pleased to announce a new initiative where we spotlight our city's department directors to highlight the valuable contributions of our staff.

Melissa Porro, Police Lieutenant

I am happy to announce our first female police lieutenant promoted from within the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department, Lieutenant Melissa Porro.

Lieutenant Porro began her career as the agency's first female police recruit and has shown unwavering dedication and commitment to our Sunny Isles Beach community. This promotion also makes her the first female command staff member under Chief Eddie Santiago.

Congratulations to Lt. Porro on this well-deserved achievement.

Luke Plesa, Assistant Chief of Police

I am proud to announce that I, with full support from Chief Eddie Santiago, have promoted Lieutenant Luke Plesa to Assistant Chief of Police for the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department.

I have worked directly with Luke over the past 12 years. Since joining our police department in 2005, he has demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment to our community.

This promotion marks a historic moment for our city as we achieve full staffing in our police department for the first time.

Dylan Battles, Assistant Building Official

Dylan Battles, Assistant Building Official I would like to introduce Dylan Battles, our City's new Assistant Building Official.

Dylan brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team, with a strong background in architecture and over a decade of service in the public sector. Dylan has expertise with electronic plan submission and review and building department accreditation, which are top priorities for our Building Department. His commitment to excellence and passion for design makes him a valuable asset to our community.

Join me in welcoming Dylan to Sunny Isles Beach. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to his contribution in enhancing our city's Building Department.

Mauricio Betancur, City Clerk

Mauricio Betancur, our City Clerk, plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our city's administrative functions. From maintaining records to facilitating public meetings, his expertise and attention to detail are instrumental in upholding transparency and accountability in our governance.

Tiffany Neely, Finance Director

Tiffany Neely Finance Department Head Tiffany Neely leads our city's financial operations with precision. From managing the budget to ensuring fiscal responsibility, her role is vital to ensuring your tax dollars are managed with accuracy and transparency. Under her leadership, the Finance Department was awarded the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 15th Consecutive year, as well as the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 13th consecutive year.

Fabricio Volpi - Public Works Director

Fabricio Volpi was recently promoted to the position of Public Works Director, in addition to receiving the City’s Employee of the Year award for 2023.

The Public Works Department operates 24/7, handling crucial tasks such as downed trees, street and stormwater maintenance, and construction projects around the city. The responsibilities of this department are vital, and often include life-safety issues.

Since day one, Fabricio has shown great dedication to serving our community, responding promptly to issues, no matter the time of day. There is no project too large or small for him to take on.
