Sunny Spaces Art Contest Rules & Conditions

Eligibility: The City of Sunny Isles Beach Sunny Spaces Art Contest is open only to residents of Sunny Isles Beach. Contest entrants must show a valid City-issued Sunny Isles Beach Resident ID card. Past contest winners are not eligible to win again. Artwork must be painted or hand-drawn as a perfect square measuring at least 8” x 8”. Copyrighted characters are not allowed. All artwork must be original and created 100% by the artist. AI or digital artwork is not allowed. Entries that do not follow the entry guidelines or do not include the completed waiver form may be removed from consideration. Minors must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate. If a participant is a minor, the parent or legal guardian must agree to the official rules on the minor’s behalf.

Contest period: The Contest runs from June 15 to October 15, 2026.

How to enter: During the contest period, participants may enter the Contest by completing the waiver form and submitting it with their artwork. The form and artwork must be submitted in person at the Sunny Isles Beach Visitor Center, 18070 Collins Avenue, during business hours no later than 4 p.m. on October 15, 2026. Up to two (2) entries are allowed per person. Contest entrants must provide their name, Sunny Isles Beach Resident ID Card, and method of contact, such as email or phone number, to be eligible to win.

Selection of winners: Up to four winners will be selected through a blind voting process. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.

Winner verification and notification: The contest winners will be notified by January 2027. Winners will be notified via the contact information provided in the waiver. By participating in this contest, entrants consent to the use of the entrant’s name, photograph, likeness, voice and/or video for promotional purposes, including, but not limited to, online and on-air announcements, signage, posters, television, magazine articles, websites, social media sites (including, but not limited to Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube), and any other publication at the City’s discretion, without limitation and without additional compensation except where prohibited by law. In the event of a conflict between the entry instruction and these contest rules, these contest rules shall control.

General rules: The City reserves the right to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and/or to cancel, modify or suspend this Contest should entrant fraud or misconduct or other causes beyond the control of the City corrupt the administration, integrity, security, or proper operation of the Contest. The City is not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing of the offer, administration of the Contest. Each entrant releases and agrees to hold the City harmless from and against any and all claims and liability arising from or in connection with participation in this Contest. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. City is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, incomplete, blocked, delayed, technical or human errors in submitting contest entry. By entering your artwork in the Sunny Spaces Art Contest (Contest), you give the City absolute discretion to post the submission on its website or use your artwork for promotional purposes related to the business of the City. An executed waiver form will be required at time of submission. The waiver form must be signed upon submitting your entry to the contest. By entering this Contest, each Entrant affirms, represents, and warrants that: i) its entry is an original work of the entrants; ii) its entry does not defame or invade the rights or privacy of any person, living or deceased, and does not contain any material that would violate or infringe upon the copyrights, patents, trademarks, rights of privacy or publicity, or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity; iii) to the extent that its entry contains any third party materials and/or depicts the name, likeness, or indicia of identity of any person living or deceased, the Entrant has secured and will provide all necessary permissions and releases to enable use of such materials in its entry. By entering this Contest, each Entrant grants the City of Sunny Isles Beach, a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub licensable, and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, publish, prepare derivative works of, and display, without compensation or obtaining further permission, their entries in any and all media now known or hereafter developed (including, without limitation, print, broadcast, and internet), for all legitimate business purposes including advertising and promotional activities, including but not limited to in connection to this contest. Once the drawing is submitted as a contest entry, it becomes property of the City of Sunny Isles Beach and Entrant should not expect the return of the drawing. Entrants are prohibited from submitting entries that: i) contain material that is copyrighted, protected by trade secret or otherwise subject to third party proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless the Entrant is the owner of such rights or has the permission from the rightful owner to grant the City of Sunny Isles Beach all of the license rights granted herein; ii) publish falsehoods or misrepresentations that could damage the City of Sunny Isle Beach; iii) contain material that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, libelous, threatening, pornographic, harassing, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, give rise to civil liability, violate any law, or is otherwise inappropriate. By participating in this Contest, the Entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the City of Sunny Isles Beach and all of its representatives, agents, and employees from any and all liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages, of any kind arising from or in connection with, either directly or indirectly, participation in the Contest.

Use of Entry Information: The City will use submitted information only to contact the potential winners.

Release of ownership: The City and its authorized employees or agents may use any artwork or elements of any artwork submitted to this contest in future City-sponsored brochures, posters, websites, social media, pamphlets, newspaper, City advertisements and/or any other promotional materials. The participants of this contest agree to give permission for artwork to be used in future promotional materials by the City and agree that any artwork, photographs, pictures, slides, movies or videos may be used in connection with participation in the contest without any compensation from the City or their agents and employees and you agree to hereby consent to the use of said artwork, photographs, pictures, slides, movies, or videos for any legal purpose.

No Purchase Necessary: No payment of any kind is necessary to participate in or win the City of Sunny Isles Beach Sunny Spaces Art Contest.

By participating in this Contest, the Entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the City of Sunny Isles Beach and all of its representatives, agents, and employees from any and all liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages, of any kind arising from or in connection with, either directly or indirectly, participation in the Contest.

What should the artwork include?
The artwork should be painted or hand-drawn, such as with colored pencils. Any medium of paint is accepted.

What size should the artwork be?
The paper or canvas you submit must be at least 8″ X 8″ or larger. The dimensions must be a perfect square.

What material can be used for the artwork?
Paper or canvas is recommended. Winning pieces will be professionally transferred to become art installations at various locations around the city.

What mediums can be used to create the artwork?
Paints, pencils, charcoal, pastels may be used. The artwork must be hand-painted or hand-drawn. Digital or AI artwork will not be accepted.

Can I copy another piece of art?
No. Copyrighted characters are not allowed, and the artwork must be original and created 100% by the artist.

How old do I have to be to participate?
This contest is open to all ages but minors must have permission from a parent or legal guardian. If a participant is a minor, the parent or legal guardian must agree to the official rules on the minor’s behalf.

Do I have to create my art within the boundary box of the submission form?
No. Artwork may be completed on your own paper or canvas that is at least 8″ X 8″.

Should I sign the painting?
Please include your name on the back of the painting.

Do I need to be a resident of Sunny Isles Beach to enter the contest?
Yes. Artists must show their Sunny Isles Beach Resident ID Card when submitting their artwork.

How do I submit my artwork?
Entries must be submitted in-person at the Sunny Isles Beach Visitor Center during regular business hours.
