Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department conducting Chlorine Conversion
From October 13-26, 2025, the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) will switch to free chlorine treatment at its regional water facilities. This enhanced disinfection method provides a more thorough cleansing of the water distribution system compared to the combined chlorine typically used.
Here's What You Should Know
- You may notice a noticeable chlorine smell or taste in your tap water
- WASD crews will be flushing fire hydrants throughout our area to ensure free chlorine reaches every part of the system
- You might experience slightly reduced water pressure during flushing activities
- Temporary cloudiness may appear in your water—simply run your tap for a few minutes until it clears (this is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect water quality or safety)
Special Considerations
If you're a dialysis patient, we recommend checking with your doctor. Those with aquarium fish or tropical tanks should consult with an aquarium professional before this period begins. These precautions are just to be safe, but there are no adverse health effects from the treatment process.
